BBC fantasy series His Dark Materials trailer stars James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson - News Today  Philip Pullman fantasy series is coming to the BBC and the new trailer shows off the epic cast.  Logan star Dafne Keen stars as heroine Lyra Belacqua, a young orphan living in a parallel universe's Oxford who stumbles upon a mythical device known as the Alethiometer (the Golden Compass), sending her on a journey that could change not just her world but also many parallel worlds too   James McAvoy features as Lyra's distant and haughty adventurer uncle Lord Asriel, while Luther star Ruth Wilson plays the manipulative and mysterious Mrs Coulter. Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda also features in the role of hot air-balloonist and hero Lee Scoresby, alongside The Wire star Clarke Peters as The Master. Look out too for Shameless star Anne-Marie Duff and Game of Thrones actor James Cosmo .The controversial but acclaimed fantasy book series by Philip Pullman was previously adapted by Hollywood with the 2007 film The Golden Compass, which received mixed to negative reviews and never received sequel films. The film starred Dakota Blue Richards as Lyra, Nicole Kidman as Mrs Coulter, Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel, Sam Elliott as Lee Scoresby, and Eva Green as witch Serafina Pekkala. The first season of the BBC/HBO produced television series will feature eight episodes, with the second season due to follow. Pullman's book trilogy consists of Northern Lights (The Golden Compass in the US), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. will air on BBC One in the UK and HBO in the US in later in 2019.
